Description: A plot of Pavement Condition Index by roadway segment (block-to-block). Used to plot the Pavement Condition Index for each segment. Relates to the spreadsheet tab titled “App A Inventory” in Analysis Results deliverable. Used for planning pavement rehabilitation work. Presentation to City Council on October 20, 2015 can be found here: http://www.sandyspringsga.gov/Home/Components/MeetingsManager/MeetingItem/ShowDocument/?documentID=2716 "As part of Operation “Pave On”, the City has employed an independent third party to survey and rate all City owned roads using the ASTM D6433 Standard Practice for Roads and Parking Lots Pavement Condition Index Surveys. This survey is done using a combination of technology and human observation and rates the roads on a scale between 0, being the worst, and 100, being the best. Staff then uses this score along with budgetary guidance from city council and management to program appropriate treatments for pavement management. The target average PCI for the City’s road network is currently"Condition focuses on:Fatigue/Alligator CrackingWheel Path RuttingCrackingDistortions & WeatheringPatching & PotholesRoughnessRavelingBleedingPCI = 33% Roughness + 67% Surface DistressExamples of Results:PCI = 34; Past point of overlay based rehabilitation. Base and/or structure failures, rutting, excessive crackingPCI = 44; Streets due for a thicker overlay, possibly a surface removal and replacement. High priority to avoid reconstruction.Localized base failures, Rutting at intersections, Extensive cracking, Extensive patching. PCI = 72; Greatest cost benefit:Thinner strategies, Less crown build-up, Less intrusive rehab. Maintain existing drainage. Few localized distresses. Minimal base failures. If distressed due to loading, may. need thin overlay, otherwise. crack seal and surface treat (micro /chip seal).PCI = 88; Crack seal with surface treatment on asphalt roads. Maintains existing drainage. Extends pavement life at lowest cost. Very few distresses, No rutting, No base failures.
